Owings P

The Owings P (P stands for Pinnacle) is a passive electric clamshell guitar with a well rounded shape and double pointed horns.  I've made both a six and seven string of this guitar design with alternating tropical walnut and maple, as shown above.

There are four knobs on this guitar which control:
  1. Overall volume
  2. Pickup selection
  3. Treble tone
  4. Bass tone
Having separate bass and treble tone controls allows better sculpting of the tone.   There are no individual pickup volume and tone controls -- if that's a problem it would be possible to place such controls inside the guitar and adjusted once to balance the pickups.

A clamshell guitar has a few advantages over other designs.  It is easier to work with the electronics.  The area between the two halves can be copper foiled, creating a large ground plane making the guitar less noisy.  No pickup plates or cover plates are required.  The body can be hollowed on the inside for weight or acoustics.  And, last but not least, it is easier to build and finish.
